Dungeons & Dragons Character Bios?

Post by HarveyT on Thu Jul 30, 2015 2:55 pm

So we've talked about the most ridiculous stories we have, we've talked about character quirks and usual habits, how about really talking about the character we're using/making now?
I've been working on the basic details about my character for the planned campaign and have cropped some info from my more extensive by to give an idea about him.

Tiht (Flicker, flint) Umbras
5’3”
105 lbs
Common, Elven, Draconic
CN
Wizard/Druid (will likely be just two levels for Wild shape to tie in with backstory)

Raised in a small forest village the son of a carpenter bard, and druid priestess, deciding that neither life was for he left home early at the age of 85 and traveled the world, making friends, getting himself into trouble, and eventually, studying wizardry. Tiht has a deep love for knowledge but his impatience and curiosity seldom allows him to become too studied in any one area. He is known to be subject to flights of fancy, staying in an area for months and dropping away on a whim, leaving his gatherings there in search of a new adventure, or chasing after some rumor. He discovered that wizardry in its array of schools was the first thing that sated his thirst for knowledge, and adventure.

During his youth he spent time studying with his mother in the ways of the druid, managing to learn some rudimentary transformations, when one evening he caught the scent of a hare and chased it to its burrow, the two became fast friends. He spent all of two weeks, working with his dad in the shop before stating he was neither a carpenter nor a performer. Though he does love to give what he believes to be inspiring speeches before battle, or a journey, or lunch, basically whenever.

Around his neck he wears memories of home in the form of a wooden flute carved by his mother as a gift to his father, and a small whittling knife his dad gave him as child. During stressful or long nights, after meditation he can be heard quietly singing lullaby’s his father taught him. When anxious or nervous he can be caught tracing his fingers over his right palm, the area where there was once a scar from stabbing himself while flipping a knife in hand. When bored he still flips that knife. From his left shoulder to elbow is a tattoo of a dragons flame burning down a wooded area and small cottage, this is in remembrance of the time on a stupid, childish dare, he attempted to steal a scale off of a dragon, on a stupid, childish dare, and was chased for miles the dragon burning down trees, and eventually a house in her path. It took him months to rebuild that house, and his parents made him give up his room to the owner during that time. His biggest regret about it? He’s still never managed to steal a dragon scale.

Tiht pays for his lodging only when there is absolutely no way around it, this started as a joke with a travelling friend the two made a wager on who could go the longest on their journey, charming tricking or relying on the kindness strangers to get room, or if all else failed, camping.

Some things are of coursed subject to change with him, but think he's going to be great fun to RP. Also just started working on a Necromancer Drow, and possibly my first ever fighter with a Dwarf or Half-Orc.

I'll probably be a rogue. Poor downtrodden turned to thievery to survive type.

I've been dicking around with a character creator I found online, and filling it out gave me an idea for a basic outline.

My gal (name TBD) comes from a family of theives, and was primarily raised by her older sister after her parents were arrested. When she stared showing some magical talent, her sister managed to convince an order (TBD, I need to look through the list and see what makes sense) to take her on as an acolyte, but she never became a priestess. Since then shes gone on to be the equivalent of a wizard academic.

My gal would probably not have decided to go on adventures on her own, but her sister was arrested (or possibly pissed of some other criminals and taken hostage) and she needs money to bribe someone to get her out. Being in academia might be intellectually rewarding, but the pay is not so hot.

I was looking at the list of possible languages and skills your character can have. I thought thieves' cant and sleight of hand would be really useful, and then started thinking up a back story where it would make sense. With the other languages, I'm trying to think in terms of academics. My gal would have a focus for her research, so probably a couple that are related and would be useful for her to know for her work rather than necessarily practical for day to day.

If she has a familiar I might go with raven, because ravens are cool.
