GW2 user IDs?

Post by wondercube on Tue Oct 06, 2015 10:57 am

Hey all, just getting back into GW2 and wondering if any of you play?

My user ID is Svennis.3852

Add me if you'd like to play together sometime! I have two level 80s (Ranger and Mesmer), and working my warrior up to 80 currently. I have a few lower level characters around 20 that I can use to grind with anyone who is lower level.

Down to run dungeons, explore, or do whatever. Always open to helping people with their personal story missions (I know I've struggled to get through a lot of missions soloing with my squishy as hell mesmer).

Let me know! Feel free to post your ID or add me in game.

I can give you mine but I'm on the EU megaserver so I think we probably can't group. Sad (Also I haven't played in months...planning to go back for Heart of Thorns though.)

Mine's Laurelinde.4395.

Edit: forgot to say, I have a ranger, warrior, thief and guardian at 80. I've played the ranger the most by far, and the warrior is/was mostly my WvW character.

I added you. Smile
Not sure if we'll be able to play together, but we can at least whisper each other when we're bored? xD

I am so clueless when it comes to gw2, I JUST found out that your armor's major stats make a HUGE difference in your character's damage output. Just bought full carrion armor for my level 80 mesmer and things die SO MUCH FASTER NOW.

It's amazing.

cloudwater.4095. I feel dumb because I was giving people my character's names. I've only really started playing!

I've been playing (on and off) for a while, but I'm still a pretty huge noob. I REALLY haven't devoted a lot of time to learning the finer points of the game/trait system. And every time I get on a gw2 kick they've seemingly revamped it completely.

I have a few lower level characters, though they're around 20. Still that doesn't matter because the game auto-adjusts your "effective level" to match a certain area. So I could bring my level 80 to a level 2 area to play with you, and it would effectively make my character within a level or two of that area.

What classes are you playing?

My ranger is level 22, I have a guardian at level 20 that I was leveling with my partner but he stopped playing, mostly because we packed up and moved and it was a few weeks before we settled, and then the new expansion for FFXIV came out >.>

I'm still playing around with other classes, but ranger is really fun. I have a snow leopard named Cuddles, an Ice Drake named Schmooples, a polar bear named Prince and a warthog named Wilbur.

My ranger is my main, which is funny considering she was one I made as a throwaway character to be deleted after trying out the class! She stuck around by being just fierce and fabulous. Wink

Usually roll with a brown bear I named Koro, an arctodus named Arca, or a hawk named Jetaya. I have a river drake named Kraka too, and I have a shark as my other underwater pet but I forget what I named it.

And looks like we'll be good to grind together if you got some 20-somethings. Razz

Added ya~

Got my warrior to level 80! Yey~

All my characters have a "V" instead of a last name (I.E. Kunal V, Zola V, Chaed V). When I played the original guild wars I did the same thing (because for some reason I had something against last names?), and that carried over into gW2. Smile

My headcanon is that they're all apart of a secret organization in Tyria called "The Fifth Order," so their names all read as "So-and-so the fifth."

I've never actually developed what exactly the organization does haha. Just like a good guy illuminati type thing, so basically the game's canon Order of Whispers lmao. BUT I CAME UP WITH THE IDEA BEFORE THE ORDER WHISPERS WAS INTRODUCED I'M JUST SAYING.

Anyone been playing Heart of Thorns? How is it?

Currently leveling my characters. I have characters for all original 8 professions. I feel like I need to get them all to 80 before I buy the expansion because reasons. I have 5 left. -_-

Though my guardian is almost level 50, so yeah. Tomes of Knowledge are my friend. I wish I could farm them more quickly though.

I'd also like to get 100% map completion with at least one character before I get the expansion too... I don't know if I'm going overboard. xD

I've got it. It's...interesting? There are some changes I really like - you can chat with all of your guilds now, not just the one you're representing. Pets and minions take really reduced damage if they don't have aggro, which makes them much more survivable. The new wyvern pets look fab! (I only have the fire one so far; I named it Ancalagon.)

The masteries are interesting but the xp on them goes very very slowly. The new maps, what I've seen of them, are very complex. They all have three layers, height-wise, and are tricky to navigate. They're not unlike Silverwastes and Dry Top if you've been there. Some of the mastery points, hero points, events, etc. are gated behind some of the particular masteries you need to unlock so there will be a lot of doubling back later.

Huh, interesting. I've heard mixed things, mostly good though.

I was disappointed to hear the expansion only included three new areas, but like you said, they're apparently massive. What exactly are the masteries? They're like... a weird new leveling system? Are they capped at 80 as well, or is it something lower? I've been bad at following the information leading up to this expansion.

I've heard a little bit about the new pets, so I'm excited for that since my main is a ranger. I think I saw a Wyvern in pvp. I was surprised to hear the expansion doesn't really include the nightmare court, since this arc is all about a plant dragon that can corrupt them. I was hoping there would be some more insight into the possibility of other Sylvari trees (Malyck did head into the Maguuma Wilds after the Sylvari origin story, after all).

Apparently the writing is really terrible? I never thought the core game's writing was anything special (the voice acting was certainly sketchy at times).

Re: GW2 user IDs?

Post by Laurelinde on Wed Oct 28, 2015 2:50 pm

I've only done a few episodes of the new living story stuff so far (now I'm stuck trying to get a mastery to keep going.) So far the writing hasn't seemed particularly wonkier than it was previously, to me. Something quite sad happens, though. Sad

The masteries are kind of like an alternate advancement system, I guess. I'm not sure how they work (or if you can access them) before level 80. Basically, prior to now, once you hit 80, whenever your xp bar filled up again you got another skill point. Those skill points could be used to buy/unlock any skills you didn't have yet as well as some items and things I believe.

Now, you use the xp bar to level your masteries instead. You can only level one mastery at a time (well, one in the old world and one in the new zones). There are four sets of masteries in the new zones: gliding, Itzel stuff (new frog faction), Exalted stuff (new faction of...some kind of energy beings) and Nuzloch stuff (another new frog faction!) The three in the old world are one of some kind of group/captain-y masteries which give you things like buffs for your whole group and eventually auto-looting, one for crafting legendary weapons, and one for Fractals. I'm pretty sure that any xp you earn in the new zones goes towards the Maguuma/HoT masteries and any xp you earn in the 'old' zones goes towards the Central Tyria masteries.

Within each set there are tiers of the individual masteries you are working to unlock. So for example, the first one everyone gets is Gliding 1. This allows you to press space bar while jumping/falling in the new zones to launch a glider, like a hang-glider, which slows your fall and allows you to jump down from very high places. You have to set that particular mastery skill/tier on your bar as the one your xp is going towards, and then once the xp bar is full, you can train it. In order to train it, you need mastery points, which you earn by quests and at various 'commune with this point of power' places on the map. Tier 1 masteries only need one mastery point to train, but higher tiers need multiple points (some up to 9 or 10 I think.)

You can swap between different masteries you've unlocked at will, but the xp you've earned towards one won't carry over to another - it will stay where it is until you finish. So for example, if I started progressing towards unlocking Gliding 2 (which allows you to use updrafts to float up onto higher platforms with the glider), and got, say, 2/3 of the way there; but then I decided I wanted to train Itzel 1 instead (which allows you to use mushrooms like trampolines to bounce higher), my xp bar would start again at 0 when I swapped to Itzel 1. When I went back to Gliding 2, though, that would still be at 2/3 where I left off.

I gather that some stuff has been toned down a little today - the cost to unlock elite specialisations has been reduced from 65 hero points to 30, supposedly. I heard some of the hero points in the new zones aren't as difficult or hard to reach as they used to be, too. I haven't been in to check yet as I was working and then had 'date night' yesterday (where Mr. Bear and I forgo computers for an evening!), and today I was doing job application stuff and then the new patch in Lotro (MINAS TIRITH AT LAST!!)

There are ways to earn mastery points and such in WvW as well but I haven't done much WvW since the patch. I think you get some kind of token, and for x number of tokens you can turn them into a vendor for a mastery point or mastery xp or somesuch.

I hope that all made sense. It's kind of complicated but the game does walk you through it, I found.
